Kayrin squeezed his eyes shut before he gave a slight nod. "Be ready, my queen." With that, the floodgates of Kayrin's memories broke open.

The first memory that Ember saw was Kayrin's last memory of his mother. The new-born Nephilim's eyes cracked up, black irises searching before they settled on the most beautiful creature, both of this world and the next. The baby's face split into a grin, hands stretching forward, little fingers grasping for the angel's care. The horror that was etched across Kayrin's mother's face scarred him; it was his first memory of this world - his first sight was the hatred of his mother. And just like that, an iridescent glow surrounded the angel and she was gone, leaving Kayrin in the grips of Lucifer's demons. Had she taken him, accepted him, he might have been someone different. As it was, Kayrin was raised by Lucifer's fallen angels and taught the ways of darkness.
