I've got my two betta fish. They're my precious boys. No, they are not in the same tank. They will eventually, but there will be a divider so they can't get to each other.

It didn't seem to manner that Sadie was back at Cross. Adam's daily schedule remained much the same as it had over the course of the past few months. Of course, as needed, he put time aside to spend with Charlie. He spoke as little as possible to his ex-wife, cautious about how he behaved toward her in front of their child. Now and then, he'd have her spend the night in his room, and he actually slept. He merely worked his horses, worked other horses, and watched his daughter. That was his life in a nutshell.
He had had a race with Paranormal Vortex, just an allowance race, nothing major. The colt had come in third, which Adam supposed was alright. The colt would never be a high-calibre racehorse, but so long as he was sound, Adam was happy with the colt. He was considering talking to Fay about gelding the colt in hopes that it would calm him down and help him focus better during races. Maybe he'd do a slightly better job at racing.
Tremolo, on the other hand, would be traveling to New York shortly for a low graded stakes race. Adam felt that he was ready to try better company than what Cedar Creek Downs had to offer. Of course, he'd have to let Sadie know that he would be out of town and unable to watch Sadie after a while.

For the past few weeks, Sadie had been in between Cross and Kentucky, where her main mounts were. It was easier to commute to Cross to have Adam see Charlie, and quite frankly, she missed the facility. Before the divorce, it had been her home, and she had a hope that it would be again. But things were different, and she felt like she didn't belong. It was also kind of awkward being there, but she put up her best front and did the best she could to ignore it.
After her career had taken a dip, she was back on top. She was one of the best female riders on the East Coast again, and it felt good to be back on top. She'd worked extremely hard to be where she was, and she wasn't about to let that go.
At the moment, the young mother was driving back from Kentucky to Cross, fingers thrumming against the steering wheel, eyes resolutely fixed on the road. She was humming something under her breath, other than that, her truck was silent. She had a lot gnawing on her mind, and it was hard to not think about when it was just her and the open road.

Adam was in the kitchen with Charlie, since it was in a spanse between dinner and lunch time. He'd made his daughter a rather healthy lunch of a cheese and cold cuts sandwich, substituting bread for pita wraps, and providing cut up apple slices on the side. He had much the same thing, but he hardly touched his. Even as he coaxed his daughter to take a bite of her small half, he only rolled his wrap around on his plate, poking at his apple slices.
He had to skip this meal. He couldn't eat this. He had several races the following day, and he'd be flying out to California in two days time for a couple of stakes races between Del Mar and Santa Anita Park, and then back to Saratoga for another handful of races. He couldn't afford to gain anything. But, that wasn't his only reason to avoid eating. He just couldn't physically bring himself to eat the wrap. Try as he might, he couldn't do more than look at it as if it might bite him. He pushed his plate away and sighed, dropping his head into his hands in frustration. He hated himself more and more every day.

Charlie was rambling away while her father made her a snack, her eyes wide and her little feet kicking out from the high chair. She nibbled on her wrap, but set it down when she noticed that he wasn't eating. She gave him a funny look, before grabbing hers back up and point at him. "EAT YOUR FOOD." She exclaimed, then giggled, and shoved the rest of hers into her mouth. She grinned a big foody smile.
Sadie eventually arrived at Cross. She put her car into park before sitting there for awhile, her head leaning against the steering wheel. She'd been stretched thin lately, and all she wanted to do was sleep. She climbed out of her truck after an eternity and trudged her way towards the bunkhouse, footsteps heavy. She stopped at the doorway, sighed, and glanced around before heading inside. She made a beeline for the kitchen, her stomach rumbling. She would just grab something quick and head up to the her room. She didn't even notice her exhusband and daughter; she just opened the fridge and stared at the contents blankly.

Adam studied Charlie or a long moment before sighing and taking a very small bite. He grimaced slightly. He was hungry, of course, but he didn't feel it. He didn't feel anything anymore. "I'll eat it later, Charles. I'm not all that hungry right now," He murmured, pushing his plate farther away. He rested his chin on the table, arms spread out across the surface. He let out a heavy sigh. He suddenly felt so tired, so done with everything. He just wanted to melt into the floor and cease to exist. Maybe only for a few minutes, maybe forever.

Charlie pouted, arms crossed as she gave her father a dirty look. "Fine." She wiggled slightly in her seat before glancing up to see Sadie. Her eyes brightened and she emitted a squeal. "Mama!" Sadie glanced up from where she was at the fridge, a look of sadness and longing crossing her face before it passed. She gave a small smile to her daughter, and nodded in greeting to Adam. "Hey baby." She crooned to her little girl before turning back to the fridge and grabbing an orange.
"Mama, Daddy's being naughty." Charlie gave Adam the stink eye again, before the expression cleared and she giggled. "Hm?" Sadie murmured.

"How'm I being bad, Charles?" Adam mumbled without lifting his head. He stared listlessly at the table, eyes half-closed. "I'm just not hungry, babe. There's no shame in not eating anything if I'm not all that hungry. Sometimes you don't eat all of your dinner, right?" He asked, forcing his tone to sound brighter, more energetic than he felt. He had no energy these days. He gave Sadie an awkward sort of gesture in greeting, again without lifting his head. It was more a lift of the hand from the table in greeting.

Charlie frowned at him, crossing her arms. "Because I said so." She said, before smiling. Charlie giggled and bounce up and down in her high chair, eyes bright. "Daddy, can we go see Peewee?" She asked, batting her eyes. Sadie watched the two for a moment, an almost stern gaze lighting her eyes before it faded into a guarded expression. She was worried about him, but she really didn't let it show. She blamed herself for him being in the state he was, and it was just easier to pretend everything was okay, when in reality, it wasn't.
