Kayrin knew what was transpiring between Jai and Ember. He wasn't stupid, and could identify the desperate glint that lit Jai's gaze. His chest hurt, a pang slamming into his heart, but he remained silent. He'd more or less botched his chances with his mate, and he knew it. But how could he know the fates had chosen her as his queen? Sadness entered Kayrin's black gaze, but he remained quiet. He'd respect Ember's decision.

Ember nodded, letting her gaze slowly slid over Kayrin. Gods, he was gorgeous. She slowly drew her gaze away and looked at her father."I choose home."she whispered, than she smiled."The fates. They chose him as my mate for a reason. I tend to find out why. However, I'm not leaving my people nor am I living with him. I will continue my life as it was, except now I expect dates."she said and glanced at Kayrin pointedly with a smile on her face and than at Jai. "From the both of you."she said and than glanced at her father. If any of them had objections, she would give up for real on whoever objected and move on towards the future and a better life. She knew she was making the right choice. She felt it in her heart.

Relief was clear on Kayrin's face when he realized that Ember had chosen him. His gaze flicked to Jai and he watched the Schimba's face fall, though the warrior was quick to plaster on his poker face. Hurt and grief still lit the shifter's leaf-green eyes though, but he nodded respectfully nonetheless. Unole turned his gaze to Kayrin. When Ember stated she expected both of them to court her, shock was clear on Jai's expression. Kayrin was saddened and had the great desire to kill Ember for coveting his mate, but he'd a silent promise to Ember that he would respect her decision. The Schimba-King drew himself to his full height.
"I expect you to take care of my daughter," he told Kayrin. "Because if you do what you did to her a second time, there is no place on this world or the next that can save you from a father's wrath." He glanced at Jai, silent. No words were needed for the Schimba; his respect for Ember was obvious.

Ember smiled softly watching the reactions of both Jai and Kayrin. She nodded once,"Now... Dad how about dinner?"she asked, smiling at her father kindly. I'll meet you tonight? she asked as she glanced at Kayrin.

If that is your wish, Kayrin responded. What would you like to do? He dipped his head respectfully to Unole, slowly backing into the shadows as he prepared to lift off.

Unole smiled. "I believe your friend, Lauren, made her famous spahgetti tonight, along with her homemade bread." Lauren's cooking was well-known in the Schimba manor as heaven, and even Jai's mouth began to water.

Ember nodded, licking her dry lips. She smiled as she ran over to Kayrin and kissed him softly on the lips. She smiled once more at Kayrin and than she ran to meet her father and Jai. "Race ya back!"she cried as her new wings unfurled and took her up into the sky.
