"We will be who we are and they’ll heal our scars. Sadness will be far away."
Mumford & Sons
Coat Color: Non-Fading Black (17 hh)
Markings: Partial Coronet marking on left hind leg, small star
Job: Retired Racehorse, Active Stud
Personality: Shadow Hunter could pass off as a gelding due to his calm nature. He gets along with mares and stallions alike with no problems. He isn't hot-headed enough that he's got to challenge every stallion around and has thus rarely gotten into a fight. He will accept attention from humans alike but he has a special fondness of Aiden, seeing as Aiden was the first human he truly bonded with. Shadow doesn't care for any sort of treat that you'd normally come by in the stables. However, Shadow has developed a fondness for applesauce with cinnamon, so long as it was Aiden that gave it to him. He has stubbornly been observed ignoring it until it was in Aiden's hand rather than anyone else's. Shadow is a bit difficult to put out with mares for breeding purposes only because he often chooses to ignore them in favor of any potential food. As a result, he is often left, supervised, with a mare for several hours and sometimes coaxed into it. However, upon a successful breeding, he has a tendency to grow attached to his mare and, to a point, possessive.
History: Shadow Hunter grew up in a rundown, filthy facility along with Wingshade. He and his dam were turned out in a muddy little paddock with three other mares and foals and even left out there, despite the cold weather. At three and a half months of age, he was weaned and immediately thrust into training, learning how to accept a halter and be led by six months. He wasn't taken care of well and a riding crop was often used as a form of punishment, leaving the young foal with scars on his delicate skin. He eventually was rescued and sold to Cross Thoroughbred Racing Facility. Aiden was put in charge of socializing and showing him that humans weren't all bad, on his father's orders. Upon forming a bond with Aiden, Shadow blossomed into a friendly colt and a decent racer with Aiden as his jockey. Shadow had more stamina than speed, staying toward the front of the pack. Upon being retired from racing, Shadow transitioned into a stud and is the facility's main breeding stallion. Aiden was forced to sell him to keep the facility running at one point. The breeding stable in Georgia that he was sold to eventually closed down due to financial issues and Shadow was sold off without Aiden's notification. Aiden spent a good deal of time tracking him down and bargaining to get his stallion back.
