Adam narrowed his eyes at Jessie when he called the women he brought over hookers. He stepped purposefully closer to Jessie, lips almost brushing her ear as he uttered," Never done anything to them that I did with Sadie. They were just there so I wasn't alone." With that, he stepped back. "Tell Sadie I'm sick and can't take visitors. Tell her I'm out somewhere if you hafta." He slurred the last word out, rocking back on his heel. He tripped slightly in his haste to turn away, heading for his room. He hadn't touched the soup after all. He neatly snatched up his water bottle and climbed the stairs without another word.
He couldn't believe that she actually thought that he was sleeping with them. Yeah, he brought women over, but he'd never found himself drawn to them in that way as he had with those he'd grown close to. He had found that he wasn't actually interested in that way for a long time, about anyone. Sure, he might think a woman was gorgeous or had a great personality, but it rarely went beyond that, despite all his flirting. He'd even explained to Jessie before that he didn't sleep well, even with a sound machine, because his room was too quiet. He was used to the sound of another's breathing and he'd had that missing for so long. Could she blame him for bringing someone into his bed so he could get a few hours of sleep now and then? The night before had been particularly rough as Adam grew nervous about the impending court date that would change if he could get that custody. Court might still see him unfit and now he'd screwed up by getting drunk when Sadie decided to pop in for a surprise visit. He slammed the door behind him and dropped himself onto his bed.
Aiden nodded in agreement, pausing with Transcendence outside of the track. One of the outriders that worked at the facility led his gelding over to the gate, clucking his tongue to encourage the horse to move along with the gate, opening it for Aiden and Sarai. "Monty's doing great, Mac!" Aiden called, nodding toward the dark brown gelding. The horse was a former racer himself, off-track now and coming along brilliantly in his training to catch any loose racehorses on the track. He was darn near bombproof at this point, it appeared.
The outrider grinned, nodding in response. "I had my doubts but here he is, coming along like a true champ." Transcendence shied back at the gate, despite the rather large opening. He'd seen how it moved and he refused to move forward. Aiden sighed but gave a gentle nudge to the side, clucking softly and murmuring encouragingly.
Bokeh shifted restlessly, ears pricking forward at the commotion ahead of him. It had him growing uneasy too, since the bigger colt ahead of him normally didn't act out. He braced his legs and refused to move forward now, too.

Sadie stared at Fay for a moment, balking when they got to the edge of the bunkhouse steps. "Are you sure Fay? Like..." She trailed off, looking completely torn. Like Adam, she just wanted to run and hide. She didn't want to face him. She didn't want to see him at the moment. She'd just come here to drop off Charlie, even though it was such a late notice. Even though he had been doing those things, she wasn't going to change her mind. She finally sighed, realizing that she would have to talk to him if she was going to let Adam keep some custody of Charlie. "Nevermind, let's just get this overwith." She motioned for Fay to lead the way.

Jessie scooted off the stool she was on a few moments later when Jessie had her back turned washing the dishes. She scampered up the stairs and softly knocked on Adam's room. "Uncle Addy?" She asked as she peeked under the door. She stood and pushed the door open, walking over to the bed and tugging on Adam's pants leg. She crawled onto the bed with him and felt his forhead. "You're sick. I'll stay 'till you feel better." She said as she snuggled down onto a pillow. She had been watching him, but thanks to the warm soup in her tummy, the petite child was soon sleeping, the softest of baby snores coming from her.

Fay marched into the bunkhouse, but just saw Jessie in the kitchen. She frowned slightly, noting that there were two bowls on the table, one with soup in it, and the other without. She shrugged and glanced toward the medic. "Where'd he go?" Jessie was smart enough to know who she was talking about, surely. It wasn't like Fay had much interest in anyone else at the facility, after all. She continued to bounce Charlie slightly in her arms, kissing the little girl on top of the head. God, Sadie and Adam had made a cute child.
Adam opened his eyes and sighed. "'m not really sick, kiddo." He mumbled and then frowned. "Maybe a little. But I'll be okay. I just need sleep." He mumbled and rolled over so that he was on his belly. He sat there in the silence of his room, listening to the ticking of the clock on the wall, and to Zoey's soft breathing. The sound was enough to lull him into a sense of security, even though he knew that Sadie was nearby. He was just so tired and the promise of actual sleep drew him down into the darkness, overtaking his panicked thoughts.

[well two lights have blown in two days and now I'm to scared to go to the kitchen. Pretty sure our new house is possed because of the light things.]

Sadie just gave Jessie a small smile as they entered the bunkhouse, before she glanced around. It looked exactly the same, as if she never left. She didn't say anything, just glancing around with wide eyes. She was on edge, and it felt weird to be here. She missed Cross desperately, and everything that came with it. She was a little shaky as she studied the two bowls of soup, but only Jessie was there. She tipped her head, but it was obvious she was growing more and more anxious as moments ticked by. She wanted to leave, but she knew she needed to do this, and that's what kept her glued in place.

"He was feeling really sick to his stomach so he went to lay down." Jessie said, sounding a bit tired. She sighed. "I'm all for him getting a nice earfull, but not right now. He really needs to sleep you guys. I'm going to try and get him an appointment with a psychiatrist I know. He.. he needs someone. I can't make him smile anymore, Zoey barely does." She shook her head. "I know he's been purging again too. I...I think I'm going to suggest rehab to him." She ran a hand through her hair. "His problem isn't physical anymore."

Fay blinked at the way Jessie just poured everything out. "Whoa, okay, he's always been purging, Jessie. That's never stopped. He's needed help for a long time but he's not going to agree to anything. You and I both know that." She said quickly. "I mean, you can make an appointment and all, he'll agree to that, but something will come up or he'll 'forget' and miss the appointment." Fay sounded as if this had happened before. "I mean, do what you think is best, but I'm just telling you, he's a stubborn idiot and he's not going to be happy when you suggest that. Yeah, he uses the job as a jockey as the perfect excuse to purge, but it's definitely more than that. Rehab would be good for him, but he's not going to do it." She seemed pretty confident of what she'd just said. "So, I'm assuming that he's upstairs, yeah?" She glanced back at Sadie, a look of frustration on her face. This wasn't going as she'd planned. "You better stick around for a while."

Sadie just stared at the other two women, eyes wide. She had no idea things were this bad.[/b] And suddenly, she felt like throwing up, her stomach got all tight, and her vision a little blurry. This was her fault, if she had just stuck things out, they would have gotten better. If she would have just stayed and tried to make the things that went wrong between them right, this wouldn't be happening. She took a deep breath to calm herself before glancing between Fay and Jessie. She suddenly felt useless, because it wasn't her place to suggest anything. Afterall, she was the ex-wide, and he would never listen to her. Sadie sighed and just nodded before muttering "lovely," under her breath.

"It's gotten worse is the thing." It's Jessie's turn to get frustrated. "I'm a medic dammit! It's my JOB to help people. I can't even do my job." She sat down in a stool. "I know how much of an idiot Adam is. I've been there every time he's wiped out to scrape him up off the ground and make him better just so he can do it over again. He needs more help than I can give. Guys... I'm not joking." Her face was a mask of seriousness. The face that rarely didn't hold a smile looked odd on the redhead. She looked at Sadie. "You really need to talk to him."

Fay rounded on Sadie at this point, resignation on her face. "Sweetie, this has been a long time coming. He's been bulimic since he was fourteen. His idiot of a father most definitely noticed, but he never did anything about it. That's something that's never gone away. I know you had suspicions but you dismissed them since he was a jockey, didn't you? He's too obsessive for it to just be about weight. I know plenty of other jockeys that flip to make weight, but it's different with Adam." When Jessie spoke up, she nodded slowly. "If the three most important women in his life can't knock some sense into him and force him to get help, then he's not going to last. He's on a downward spiral like you said, Jessie." She said and then froze, shaking her head. "Okay, I just realized something. This...this forcing him into rehab thing is going to have to wait until after he gets custody of little Charlie here. If the court catches wind that he's in rehab, it's all over, regardless of what you say, Sadie. We'll just have to make sure he behaves until then." A lot easier said than done, in her opinion.
Adam remained stretched out on his bed, sleeping dreamlessly. He hadn't once woken up, able to recall a dream from the night prior. He just knew he woke up as tired as when he'd finally dropped off to sleep. This had gone on for a long time, it felt like. Adam honestly believed he was coping, though. He continued to race, he forced on that crooked smile now and then, and he went about his daily activities as if things were fine. He knew Jessie worried about him, but he figured that it was the usual worry about her precious doll getting injured again. He thought he was fooling everyone. Things were just a little more difficult since Sadie had shown back up in his life.
