Adam didn't say anything further, just walked along, offering some carrots to the nicer horses, watching them closely as he held Charlie on his hip, letting her hold the carrots out to horses he knew wouldn't bite. Eventually, he set his daughter on the ground, sinking onto a bale of straw left out in the aisle. The air felt thick, too heavy to breath in that moment, and he rested his gaze on Charlie, watching her closely as he tried to even himself out. Sometimes, he just felt really overwhelmed and it was out of nowhere. He could ride it out, but it always stopped him in his tracks as he had to get his bearings.

Sadie had left Adam and Charlie to finish giving horse's carrots. She had moved down the way to LuLu's stall where she murmured to the filly, eyes bright as she grabbed a lead and clipped it to her halter and lead the cherry bay out. Sadie glanced down the aisle, eyebrows raised slightly when he noticed Adam sitting in a pile of hay. She glanced away, confused as she disappeared into the tack room to grab her gear. Charlie moved a little closer, poking Adam in the arm, a worried expression crossing the little girl's face. "Daddy?"

"Hi, Charles. What's up?" Adam asked, leaning forward so that he was a bit more eye-level with his daughter. His dark blue eyes were no longer rimmed with something akin to panic. He had more of a grip on himself again. Charlotte was unusually perceptive for her age, startlingly so. Most toddlers would be walking about with such single-mindedness determination to feed all the ponies possible.

Charlie frowned at him for a moment, her bottom lip jutting out before she turned and toddled down the aisle a little way, suddenly afixiated on Sadie tacking up LuLu. The toddler turned back to Adam, a mischievous look on her face. "Daddy, I want to ride LuLu. Or Pewee..." She trailed off, eyes getting really big as she stared at him. "Pweeeeaaaaaassssseeee?" She begged, and sat on his feet as she stared up at him.

Adam glanced up in alarm when Charlie asked to ride one of the horses. "Ahhh, I'm afraid that's one thing I cannot let you do, sweetie." He didn't trust LuLu in the slightest, because he didn't really know her all that well. PV might be gentle but he was still relatively spooky under saddle. He still bolted now and then or bucked if he didn't like something. He was still considered green, because he hadn't been broken to saddle and trained like a regular horse. He was just race-trained. "I don't want you getting hurt, Charlie."

Charlie pouted up at him. "Buuuut Daaaaady...." She whined, crossing her arms stubbornly. "You and mama get to ride. Why can't I?" She argued, giving him a dirty look. "I bet momma would let me ride LuLu." The toddler said, raising her eyebrows. She crawled up to sit on his lap, eyes wide. "Pleeeeeeaaaaaassssseeeee?"

"Charlie, the horses aren't safe to ride. Not these ones. We get hurt riding them. I don't want you to get hurt, too." Adam sighed, looking at his daughter's hands. He couldn't bear the thought of Charlie being injured in any way. He might need to start looking into a pony that would be safe for her, just as Jessie had done for Zoey at some point. He wasn't going to risk putting his daughter in harm.

Charlie frowned at him and scrambled up. "You're not nice." She angirly. She have him a dirty look and moved down the aisle towards Sadie. Sadie glanced down when Charlie was a few yards away. Her mother scooped her up, and shook her head when Charlie asked to ride LuLu. "No, honey. LuLu wouldn't like that, hon." Sadie watched and LuLu flicked her ears back at the toddler. "Go on, back to Daddy." Sadie set her down and Charlie huffed and went back to the straw pile, sinking down dramatically. "Mona's not nice either." The almost three year old announced."

Adam shrugged a shoulder. "Can't always get everything you want, sweetheart. Maybe when PV's retired from racing, if he ever calms down..." Adam sounded doubtful as he looked up at the pretty splash colt. He was lipping at something that Adam couldn't see and he frowned, pushing himself to his feet. "What've you got, trouble?" He asked, reaching a hand out as he expected Charlie to join him, grab his hand. He spotted just a thin line in the air and realized PV was attempting to break the faint line of silk crossing in front of his stall door. "You don't even like spiders, you clown."

Charlie grabbed Adam's hand, a determined look on her face before she looked back up, making a fishy face at him. "Can I have a spider?" She asked at the mention of one, eyes wide. Sadie had been reading 'Charolette's Web' to the toddler recently. Charlie reached up to tug on Adam's shirt, as she wanted to be picked up.
Sadie was busying herself with tacking up LuLu. The jockey and filly had an important race coming up, and after that, Sadie would determine if she wanted to retire the cherry bay to be a brood mare or to continue racing for another year or so.
