Freeze is a relatively calm for a Thoroughbred. She enjoys racing, that's plain in her performance on the track, but she isn't very trusting. She tends to act aggressive when she gets nervous; she tosses her head, pins her ears, and shows her teeth when she does get agitated. When she does bond with someone though, she is one of the sweetest horses around and will work hard for that person. She is very focused when training and when racing, but can get lazy if not interested or when things are constantly repeated. Past trainers have found that switching types of training activities throughout the days while still remaining on a schedule is the best to keep her entertained. Freeze is also a very steady, reliable mount. She doesn't buck or rear unless she isn't comfortable with the rider. A few former jockeys had to first bond with her, which is a reason it is usually difficult to find jockeys to ride her in races. Once she establishes a bond though, it is for life, even if that jockey does something that would usually make other horses shy away. She is a tough horse. She doesn't mind wind or rain or snow, racing is racing to her and she loves to race, no matter the weather. She is very affectionate to the human she bonds with. Whickering and nuzzling and licking are a few things that come with the bond and the trust that she forms with her person. If someone manages to bond with Freeze, they will have a very hard working, reliable, affectionate and protective horse on their hands.
Arabesque At Dusk got her name from the way she quickly stood and froze in place the night she was born. She quickly stood up after being born and just froze, as if she was scared moving would cause her to collapse again. Arabesque is a dance technique where the dancer pauses in a specific pose, so the name fit and also earned her the stable name of Freeze. After going through some short training in Tennessee she was sold to a starting jockey who couldn't seem to find mounts of his own. After forming a bond with her, they starting racing. Even though she hasn't lost a race yet, if the jockey thought that Freeze did badly he would come back later that night, drunk, and whip her with his riding crop. Soon enough, the red cuts and pink scars on her white rump got attention and animal services was called. She was sold to Cross Racing Facility at an auction and transported there later that week. She still has the scars to prove that this story is 100% true.
